Oana Fărcaș
Biography
Oana Fărcaș is a Romanian artist living and working in Cluj-Napoca, Romania. Farcas achieved her PhD from the University of Art and Design in Cluj-Napoca in 2010, since then, her works have been showcased in exhibitions across Europe and the United States, earning her international recognition. Fărcaș is recognised for her paintings of figurative silhouettes and motifs of popular culture. Her work imbues a provocative visual discourse, offering an ambiguous analysis of thoughts, sensations, symbols, and images.
Within her canvases, Fărcaș unveils an eclectic mix of characters that seamlessly integrate into the fabric of contemporary life. Her paintings capture these female characters at the delicate threshold between the past and the future, coalescing physical materials such as trimmings and finishings, with objects and everyday items that are stereotypically interwoven with notions of female identity, resulting in poignant commentary regarding society and its imposing power structures.
