Erkut Terliksiz

Turkish artist Erkut Terliksiz (b. 1978, Adana) has developed a distinctive artistic practice that synthesizes traditional and contemporary approaches to painting. Working from Istanbul, he creates compelling vibrant compositions that challenge conventional figurative representation, drawing from diverse artistic traditions while maintaining a uniquely personal visual language.

 

Terliksiz's sophisticated understanding of colour and composition emerges from his integration of various artistic influences, drawing inspiration from Pablo Picasso's Cubist innovations, the bold figurative approaches of Guston, and the psychological complexity of Condo's portraits, while establishing his own contemporary narrative. His work centres on explorations of human vulnerability and temporal awareness. His distinctive figures, characterised by exaggerated features including enlarged eyes, distinctive ears, and prominent noses, suggest psychological depth and innate vulnerability, contrasting with his vibrant colour palette. His compositions frequently present subjects as inquisitive and self-assured, examining their surroundings or suggesting implied narratives. These elements, combined with colour juxtaposition and curved forms, challenge traditional perspectives while inviting viewers to engage on multiple levels.
