JD Malat Gallery & W1 Curates transform Flannels London into an exhibition celebrating the work of Ghanaian artist Kojo Marfo
JD Malat Gallery is proud to collaborate with public art platform W1 Curates London to create a monumental display of the work of Kojo Marfo.
The collaboration will see Marfo’s iconic paintings presented on 8K LED screens across the façade of Flannels’ flagship store on Oxford Street, London, from 3 until 16 of January 2022.
Born in Ghana and now living in London, Marfo is known for his vibrant paintings that combine stylistic elements of Akan art with Western art references. His work offers a shared experience of gender and cultural identity, breaking through the constructed barriers of histories and geographies. With the crucial message of acceptance at the heart of his work and having achieved sell-out exhibitions in London and Miami, Marfo has captivated an international audience.
Through a display of alternating images of Marfo’s most recent acrylic paintings on canvas and earlier paintings on tarpaulin, cardboard and paper, W1 Curates will present the public with the opportunity to engage with Marfo’s entire body of work on a showstopping and monumental scale.
W1 Curates specialises in using state of the art technology to exhibit artworks by international artists in the public sphere. To date, W1 have showcased several innovative artists such as Tracey Emin, Gavin Turk and Anish Kapoor, providing them with a unique and engaging platform that boldly re-envisions the world around us.
Similarly dedicated to providing innovative talent with a platform, Jean-David Malat, founder of JD Malat Gallery, comments:
“As a gallery that is committed to discovering and promoting the work of emerging artists, we strongly align with W1 Curates’ mission to share art with the public. Kojo’s work is all about diversity and inclusivity, and W1’s goal beautifully reflects that. We are thrilled to partner with them, and we can’t wait to see the public engage with Kojo’s work through such a fun and monumental display.”
Lighting up Oxford Street in January 2022, JD Malat Gallery X W1 Curates will not only present a dynamic start to the year, but also explore the synergy between their visions of making art more accessible by engaging the public with Kojo Marfo’s iconic body of work.
