Cathy Tabbakh

Cathy Tabbakh (b.1989) is a contemporary French artist of Armenian descent who lives and works in the UK.

 

Tabbakh's paintings depict dreamlike landscapes coalesced with imaginary botanical forms, producing captivating still-lifes that transcend the boundaries of realism and surrealism. Recalling the hedonistic landscapes of David Hockney, from whom she draws inspiration, Tabbakh's saturated still-lives reveal the purity and intensity of colour to question contemporary ways of seeing and revolutionise the human experience. Incorporating her love of architecture, botany, and interior design with colour and shadow, Tabbakh's work acts as an escapism, transporting viewers into an imaginary space which offers a luminous perspective on the genre of still-life painting. Tabbakh's oeuvre boasts a variety of mixed mediums consisting of watercolours, acrylics, oil paints and markers, as well as a dexterous combination of different textures and techniques, culminating in emotive compositions which physically and metaphorically portray vivacity and life.

 

She holds a degree in Fashion Textile and Fine art (2011) and Art History and Archaeology (2017) - both achieved in Lyon, France. Tabbakh's work can be found in private collections worldwide, most notably, her Soho House commission (2021) consisting of two paintings which reside in their permanent collection in Paris, France. She has exhibited her work throughout Europe, the UK, New York, Australia, and most recently Seoul, South Korea.
